Mystlands

The low altitude region of the Mystlands emanate from the Depths of Anchorum and encroach upon the land as a rot or mould infects a healthy limb. Experimentation conducted in Censure biannually for the past 70 years has proven current Myst levels statistically stable at approximately 300ft above sea level, at which point the Myst gives way to the constant rains characteristic of the Midlands and Highlands.

Given the density of arcane and volatile Myst it is no surprise that 'intelligent' denizens of the Mystlands exhibit greater levels of variation from the accepted genetic norms of civilisation. Subhuman creatures like the vile Sahuagin stalk the coasts and hunt the smaller leviathan that spawn too close to shore. Monstrous Ogres set themselves atop pitiable thrones, dominating the lesser deplorables like the Kobald and Goblin in a mockery of civilisation. Without exception these beings must be avoided, isolated and purged wherever possible.

Mercifully the corruption of the flesh, mind and soul of those creatures is less extreme in the beasts of the region, evidently intelligence is a catalyst for the Myst's corrupting force. Without the flesh and meat of these creatures the farms of the Midlands would not be enough to sustain the need for Fysh-leather clothes, Lyzard-scale armour, let alone the primary foodstuff of Censure provided by the Fyshing industry.

Ghosts are also far more common below the mystline, and are capable of apparating with more terrorful vigour. Citizen expeditions have recorded attacks both physical and psychic from departed loved ones in events well beyond the scope of the listless hauntings observed in higher regions.

Since the Midlands were reclaimed over 100 years ago humanity has remained vigilant against the Myst's approach, with defensive farming settlements like Holne keeping the corruption at bay through the stabilising force of Ankorite crystals.
